Not everybody’s hip to the Christian hip-hop scene, nor understanding. Dee-1, unfortunately, experienced the backlash first hand at his last gig in Eatonville, FL.
#GospelGoodies: Don’t be so focused on the untraditional style of delivery that you judge the person and miss the important message.
Earlier this week, the New Orleans rapper detailed on Instagram how a group of protesters invaded the perimeters of his show with signs that read “Dee-1 hates God,” “Dee-1 is a fake Christian,” “Dee-1 makes music with the devil,” and more offensive phrases said to be stemmed from his collaboration with mainstream rappers Big K.R.I.T. and Lupe Fiasco on the remix to his “Against Us” song.
“Everybody might not approve of what I’m doing or how I’m doing it, but I know and God knows that my heart is pure so I’m going to keep doing it,” he said before explaining how the encounter shifted the flow of his show.
Watch what he said he did at the beginning of his performance as a response to the protesters below.
