Michelle Williams is getting candid about the depth of depression she suffered growing up.
During an appearance on The Talk, the singer opened up about her depression before, during and after the peak of Destiny’s Child success. It was a swarm of feelings she brushed off because people around her thought she had too much to be grateful for to be down; she swept it under the rug as “tired. At one point in her suffering, she revealed she also had suicidal thoughts.
Looking back, Williams says she didn’t realize what she was dealing with until she got in her 30s.
“I think at the age of 25, had I had a name to what I was feeling at the time, I would have disclosed that ‘I’ve been suffering from depression,’” she said.
While many often dismiss depression & its affects, studies say about 120 Americans commit suicide daily – a higher rate than lives claimed in war, murder and natural disasters combined. It’s not to be ignored.
Some signs of depression include:
- Feelings of helpless
- Loss of interest in daily activities
- Appetite or weight changes
- Sleep changes
- Anger or irritability
- Loss of energy
- Suicidal thoughts
