A praying grandmother is nothing to be reckoned with. Chance the Rapper knows…
In an interview with his Chicago hometown radio station, WGCI, Chance revealed a prayer his grandmother offered God after not agreeing with his lifestyle.
“She said I don’t know exactly what you’re doing, but I don’t like it. So I’m going to pray over you,” he said. “She said very simply, ‘God, I want you to take all things that are not like you from Chancellor and turn them into dust.”
Chance joked about his gram possibly putting a curse on him but says her prayer ultimately led him on a straighter path. He explained how he realized that things that were not of God failed, and gave “glory to God” for all his successes (see video up top).
Not shy about expressing his faith on a mainstream hip-hop level, Chance the Rapper blended his beliefs with life topics on his recent album, Coloring Book, which actually featured by Kirk Franklin. If you haven’t heard it, click here to listen!
